Friday 8th March 2019 is International Women’s Day . The campaign theme this year is #BalanceforBetter. Driving gender balance across the world.

So firstly, what is International Women’s Day? IWD is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights. It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is a day when women are recognised for their achievements without regard to divisions. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

How long has IWD been around? We celebrated the first IWD in 1911 with over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom’s Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women’s equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

How do I get involved? There are a variety of events you can get involved with from concerts and conferences, to fun runs and festivals. You can celebrate International Women’s Day with friends, family and colleagues. What’s important is that we raise awareness, celebrate achievement and rally for change. The goal is to help forge a more gender-balanced world.

You can also register on the IWD website below to order IWD Event Packs, receive updates, promote events, submit articles, display artwork and much more.
